If you’ve never been to one of our offices before, here are two easy routes you could take:
- If you’re heading to our Old Shell Rd location, use the Spring Hill Branch of the Mobile Public Library as the starting point. Get onto Old Shell Rd and head east for 2.6 miles. We’re right after the prep school on the right, at 2655 Old Shell Rd #A.
- If you’re heading for our University Blvd location, start from the West Regional Library. Get onto Grelot Rd, turn right onto University Blvd, and then turn left onto Georgian Dr. We’re at 801 S University Blvd.

Located on the Mobile River at the head of Mobile Bay, Mobile is Alabama’s only saltwater port and plays a pivotal role in the region’s economic health. Initially established as a vital trading center, the Port of Mobile has evolved to become the 12th-largest in the United States, continuing its long-standing influence on the city’s prosperity.
Founded in 1702 by French colonists, Mobile served as the first capital of Louisiana, marking the beginning of its rich historical tapestry. Over the next century, it was governed by France, Great Britain, and Spain, before becoming part of the United States in 1813 under President James Madison.
The city’s strategic importance was highlighted during the American Civil War, culminating in its surrender to Federal forces on April 12, 1865, after significant Union victories. This surrender was formalized when Confederate General Richard Taylor met with Major General Edward R. S. Canby, resulting in Taylor’s agreement to the terms of surrender on May 4 at Citronelle, Alabama, an event that underscored Mobile’s historic significance in national events.
